Dr. Atkins used to work for Nathan Bates, but had retired to run a general store. He was an expert with computers. When his son hacked into the Visitor mainframe, he quickly thought about how he could get that to The Resistance. Unfortunately Lt. James came looking for the hacker, after he gave Mrs. Butler a can of tuna. To save his son, he told him to leave, and allowed himself to be captured.
Diana quickly discovered in the Conversion process that Dr. Atkins was covering for his son, so he was sent back to prison.
Philip was able to free Dr. Atkins by personally having a Fifth Column Lt. Fly, a Sky Fighter, and reunite him with his son, Henry.
